Coppell Shredding
The Coppell location was settled by German and French immigrants in the 1840s. Initially called “Gibbs Station,” after Barnett Gibbs (first lieutenant governor), the town was re-named in 1892 for George Coppell, a wealthy investor from England involved with the construction of the regional railway line. The opening of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in 1974, the city significantly changed from a small farming town to a huge, upper-middle course suburban neighborhood in the 1980s and 1990s. Since then, practically all of the residentially zoned land in the city was established, and the population grew to over 35,000.
