ABC Action News and Proshred Host 8th Annual Operation Shredding Event April 22
The largest on-site shredding event in the Florida: ABC teams up with Proshred® Tampa Bay for FREE Shredding in honor of Earth Day
TAMPA, April 13, 2017 – The spring season is well underway and while most Tampa residents have already completed their “spring cleaning” tasks that come along with this change, it’s easy to overlook personal files and old mail during this decluttering process. This is the time to freshen up your home, clear out the old, and reorganize.
ABC Action News together with PROSHRED® Tampa Bay, will reunite to provide Tampa residents with the opportunity to safely rid of old confidential files right in their community. On April 22, gather up your old receipts, bills, bank and credit card statements, junk mail, and other personal documents and join thousands of residents in participating in the largest shredding event of the year. This free, 5 box limit OPERATION SHREDDING event, will be held at Citrus Park Mall in Tampa, and will run from 7:00am – 1:00pm.
“It’s easy to store files away and entirely forget that they even exist in our garage or desk drawers.” As stated by Mark Macmillan of PROSHRED® Tampa Bay. “Aside from adding extra clutter to one’s home, the real concern with this here is security. Paper shredding reduces the risk of identity theft and guarantees information is 100% unrecoverable.”
Identity theft continues to be the fastest growing crime in the United States, and in 2011 Tampa led the nation in tax return fraud. We need to take charge and protect our communities from these alarming realities.
While many are aware of the potential threats involved with information theft, people are often hesitant to give up personal documents out of fear of security. Anyone can quickly and safely, free up valuable space in their home and feel at ease in knowing all confidential information will be securely shred at this event hosted by ABC Action News.
ABC Action News is proud to be a part of such an impactful event for Tampa residents, and PROSHRED® couldn’t be more pleased to be a key partner in this initiative, providing residents with this opportunity for safe document disposal. Last year’s OPERATION SHREDDING event collected and shred 0.5 million pounds of paper, and protected the identities of close to 1,500 consumers. Since the event’s beginnings in 2010, the annual OPERATION SHREDDING has successfully shred an impressive 591,370 pounds of paper to date; incredible results!
These remarkable shredding efforts made a positive environmental impact as well; 687 trees, 282,800 gallons of water and the energy equivalent of 6,600 gallons of gasoline were saved, as a result.
“We expect this year’s event to be the largest environmental event in the city for Earth Day, with even higher numbers in attendees and paper volume. ABC’s Jackie Callaway, will be on-site covering all of the action and highlights throughout the day.” Macmillan continued.
The collaborative efforts of everyone involved with this event are to ensure everyone’s personal information is kept safe and secure. It’s important that Tampa residents are shredding personal documents to prevent the risk of identity theft. PROSHRED® Tampa Bay and ABC Action News invite and encourage you to join your community members on April 22nd in combating the risks of identity theft together.
The service is open to the public and participants do not need to be residents of Tampa. Learn more about this FREE Shred event and the importance of secure document and electronic destruction through our official media partner of the 8TH Annual OPERATION SHREDDING; ABC Action News.
